Neighborhood Groups

The primary goal for the Neighborhood Groups (NG) is to develop a Christian community where Jesus Christ is experienced in his presence and power.  This is a community where, by the Spirit, Christ transforms our lives as individuals, and small communities, and, in turn, the neighborhoods and the larger communities of which the group is a part are transformed.

It is a frequent comment by NG members how much they cherish and benefit from their group.  As was originally intended, the NG is the primary means by which a growing church becomes a stable place where community is experienced and the lives of disciples are nurtured.

Every group is led by a trained NG Leader who is experienced in group facilitation.  These leaders are in relational connection with Elders who provide spiritual oversight for the leaders as well as the people in each group.  Every person who seeks spiritual guidance and care from a leader in the church (an Elder) has this through NGs.

What can you expect in coming to a group?  You can expect to experience Christ together in our midst.  What does that mean?  It means that we experience Jesus’ power and presence as his Spirit:

1)            Ministers to us and through us to one another – to the end that people are cared for and encouraged to lead God-pleasing lives, transforming larger communities as we are transformed.  Individual members are mutually encouraged by sharing with others what God has done and is doing in lives.

2)            Demonstrates and develops gifts – God gives gifts to all his people. Individual members should learn about their gifts and have a place to exercise their gifts in and through these groups.

3)            Brings us into relationship with Christ We encourage others to enter into and continue in relationship with Christ by faith. We continually, caringly confront each other with the implications of the Gospel - God has reconciled us to Himself in Jesus Christ!
